Porsche AG in Stuttgart/Germany just recently purchased the first of a new type of computed tomography systems from phoenix|x-ray called v|tome|x c with two X-ray tubes and two fully digital detectors. This new system is substantially better equipped than other comparable customised products. phoenix|x-ray has once again been working closely together with their customer in order to develop an inspection solution consequently oriented to the customer’s needs and to cover multiple inspection tasks. The dedicated 225 kV CT directional tube from phoenix|x-ray is being used for the analysis of smaller samples with highest resolution, whereas the 450 kV minifocus tube is the preferred choice for the inspection of large-volume samples and for the radiation of thick materials. Due to the combination of the two tubes with a flat panel detector, a line detector and a 3-fold virtual sensor it is now possible to inspect anything relevant to automotive development and production from sensors to materials samples and even whole motor blocks. The granite based manipulation unit of the v|tome|x c allows the precise manipulation of very heavy objects. An integrated anti-vibration device prevents the transmission of external vibrations onto the system. Different to other systems the magnification zoom functions by moving both the sample and the detector axis. A powerful PC (available in clusters) and the special speed and image quality optimised reconstruction software datos|x from phoenix|x-ray bring the maximum performance of the scanning process and a very fast volume reconstruction. The generated STL files can be used for reverse engineering right after the data acquisition is finished. The v|tome|x c sets a new benchmark in the category of industrial computed tomography and is the largest currently available X-ray safe cabinet system.
