v|tome|x c: microfocus computed tomography for individual needs

15.05.2004 -

After the successful launch of the laboratory tomography systems v|tome|x „s“ und „m“ phoenix|x-ray recently built and installed several customised systems named “v|tome|x c”.

Dedicated solutions are nothing new to phoenix|x-ray. Usually customised systems are designed if the standard cabinet and configuration is not sufficient due to oversized samples or special manipulation/imaging needs. In these cases a special configuration for the optimum inspection performance is being developed and manufactured after a detailed briefing with the customer has taken place.

The manifold developments range from computed tomography systems with an extended detection area or others with mechanics for automatic sample loading, to overlarge walk-in radiation safety cabinets which can be fed with samples of large volumes from a top flap.

One of the development tasks led to a completely new concept: This system is equipped with a unique combination of two X-ray tubes. The powerful directional tube is perfect to inspect samples with a large wall thickness and high absorption characteristics, the high-power nanofocusTM transmission tube can be activated when samples with microscopic structures are inspected where less X-ray power is sufficient and highest image resolution is required (nanoCT).

The shown image has been installed in a production plant for parts used in aerospace. It is equipped with a three-times scanning extension and suitable for samples up to 1800 mm x 600 mm.
